Now there is a wonderful opportunity for MIP&L member congregations who use oil!

The Massachusetts Energy Consumers Alliance Inc. (Mass Energy) has agreed to establish heating oil supplies for MIP&L member congregations. MIP&L member congregations may participate in this Mass Energy oil program at no additional fee.

Since 1982, Mass Energy's discount heating-oil buying network has grown to serve 7000 members across eastern and central Massachusetts.

What is this oil program, and how does it work?

Mass Energy has contractual arrangements with many different local oil dealers. Mass Energy has negotiated a fixed price for MIP&L oil program members. Or you may choose to participate with a fixed "margin" program - paying the spot price on the day with a dealer margin less than regular retail. The fixed price offer is subject to change due to market conditions, so please respond to as soon as possible to insure the best price.

How does our congregation join the oil program?

Doesn't cheaper oil create a dis-incentive to conserving energy?

In strictly financial terms, you could argue that there is less reason to conserve energy when energy costs (in this case, oil) are cheaper. However, we believe that our members will use the money they save on oil (and all other energy saving initiatives) for other worthy causes, such as purchasing renewable energy.

IMPORTANT NOTE: If you would like to leave a smaller environmental footprint with oil, consider using bio-fuel.

Households or churches interested in this unique opportunity should contact Mass Energy. The Bio-fuel blend would be more expensive than the regular Mass Energy daily price, but it would still be cheaper than gas. More importantly, it would make using heating oil a lower impact product than gas. For more information, call Mass Energy at 617-524-3950.
